MIXC WORLD WITH ART — When Pop Art Meets Chinese New Year

When the 2019 New Year was approaching, we cooperated with artists to refresh traditional images from Chinese New Year.


KAI identified Mixc World as an ideal place for young people to spend time with refreshing cultural experiences and stylish fashion brands. So, in the 2018 MIXC WORLD WITH ART project, we invited artists with bold work — Craig&Karl.

 

About Craig&Karl



 

Craig&Karl’s studio was set up in 2011. Craig Redman and Karl Maier live in different parts of the world ( New York & London ).

At the end of 2018, we began to discuss the fourth and final work for MIXC WORLD WITH ART with the artists.

As an art piece for China’s most important festival, the Chinese New Year, we want to bring a refreshing feel that’s different from traditional impressions and the project’s three previous works.

We briefed the artists on the background and most typical features of Chinese New Year. But when the artwork was done, we were excited to recognize that even more elements had been selected and incorporated by the artists.It was not only their talent in using their style to bring a modern perspective to these traditional Chinese New Year elements, but also their respect and considerate approach to this traditional Chinese festival which led us to appreciate Craig&Karl’s professionalism and sensitivity.

At the same time, Craig&Karl also combines these elements with the physical shopping experiences of Mixc World. The polka dot-style artwork packs powerful visual impact, and combines business and art, enriching viewers’ lives with the beauty of the New Year. It tells a Chinese New Year story that belongs to the Mixc world.

A commercial art project can meet the needs of a brand’s visual image. But what’s more, with the power of creativity, it can be an extremely attractive part of the brand concept.Every step of the process, from clear organization of the brand’s real needs to eventual production, is a joint effort between the brands, artists and KAI. By understanding the messages shared by brands and artists, we were able to introduce the charm of art to the public.
